The move. The Monster.

Three eventful things have been floating around since I did the 12hr event at Princes Park. Before I get stuck into it, I would like to thank Brett Saxon from www.trailsplus.com.au for making the 12hrs so amazing. He ran a smooth operation, supported us runners all the way and I truly thank him for the experience.

So, the move, the monster and the Satori. Sounds cool, I know. Let's start at the start. The move.

Emma and I have just moved in with each other. As most of you know, moving, can be a little chaotic. Our move wasn't too chaotic, it was cool, calm and collected. It helped that Emma works at Kennards storage. Growing up on land, with sheds and space I never really understood the need for storage centres. Don't all parents look after their kids things when they need? Hmmm, the young and innocent little Brett. I moved out from the hills of Upper Beaconsfield and Emma from carlton North, to a cool part of town called Hawthorn. The average car here is a $100,000 special with all the extras. You have old houses, new houses and apartments in between. The main yarra trail, a gorgeous view of the city and walking/riding distance from, what it seems to be, everywhere! It's certainly not sleepy Upper Beacy! We were lucky enough to get a house, with a uge yard for our dog Barkley, two bedrooms (housemates coming) and a study. All round we did pretty well for the price, very, very happy and what's cool it feels like home. We are still sorting out little things and have a couple of unpacked boxes but we're getting there.

Before I get into the monster I would love to talk about a person who I have just connected with. I reached out to a man who has done something pretty special. Firstly he changed his life, took himself from a place where he didn't want to be and moved himself, step by step, into a place where he was proud to be. Gary Wilmot is his name. A POM, who settled in Perth just over a decade ago. 6'6 and 140kgs, it was time for him to get back on track. The journey that followed is, simply put, inspiring. Gary took that first step and completed a marathon. That is one impressive feet. It is, however, nothing compared to his next adventure. Gary then crossed our sunburnt country from Perth to Brisbane. For good measure he crossed through, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney. What an epic adventure! After hearing about Gary's adventure I wanted to chat to him, find out everything I could possible need to know before I set off in December. So we ended up chatting for a couple of hours and had a great time. Hearing his stories, his plans for now, sharing my goals and plans. Two very different backgrounds, two very different reasons for running but at the same time not different at all. I'm so lucky to have stumbled across the 'Great Gary Wilmot' and have some exciting news coming up with a project we will be working on together!!!

So This monster run coming up is in the You Yangs, Victoria. It's a national park near Geelong, South West of Melbourne. The running festival has many events, I decided to go for the big one, the 100miler (160kms). The longest I have run in one go is 85kms. Not near my daily requirement for Perth yet, however I'm quietly confident that I can make it 160kms. I don't think I'll be in much of a state afterwards, However, I think I can make it. I know I can. It may be blind confidence, an illusion into my capabilities, generally that's how I roll. Why stop now! I'll keep you posted with a full race recap next week. I/someone will be posting on facebook to update throughout the race.
